The Footlights series presentation is part of the Williams Center’s 25th anniversary season
The Latin-infused dance company Ballet Hispanico will perform Palladium Nights at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in the Williams Center for the Arts. The Footlights series presentation is part of the Williams Center’s 25th anniversary season.
Tickets are free for Lafayette students, $6 for students at LVAIC schools, $4 for faculty and staff, and $25 for the public. They can be obtained by calling the Williams Center box office at (610) 330-5009.
Palladium Nights invites the audience into the electrifying hotbed of Latino social dances of the 1950’s in New York’s legendary Palladium, with original choreography by Willie Rosario and live music by Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. O’Farrill was Lafayette’s Pesky Artist-in-Residence in 2005-06, and his band won this year’s Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for Song for Chico.
Founded in 1970 by artistic director Tina Ramirez, Ballet Hispanico the leading Hispanic dance company in the United States. Ramirez’s lifetime work as a professional dancer, educator, and producer earned her a 2005 National Medal of Arts, the nation’s highest cultural honor. Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, the company has performed for over two million people, appearing in such major venues as The John F. Kennedy Center, Houston’s Wortham Center, the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, UCLA’s Royce Hall, and the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia.
