Lafayette’s Marquis Society continues to experience dramatic growth in both membership and impact. A record 1,673 alumni, parents, and friends enrolled in 2007-08, contributing more than $16.5 million to the College. This surpassed the record set in 2006-07 of 1,529 members, who donated more than $13 million. The Marquis Society welcomed 52 members when it began in 1967 as the President’s Committee.
Several changes in recognition levels took effect July 1, 2008. Individuals whose annual gifts total at least $1,000 qualify for Marquis Society membership. The Marquis Founders Club recognizes donors who contribute between $1,826 and $4,999. (The $1,826 figure reflects the year in which the College was chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.) With the addition of the Marquis Founders Club, the Marquis Cabinet, which had recognized donors of $2,500-$4,999, was eliminated.
Marquis Society members at all levels are recognized in the Summary of Giving and Volunteer Participation, receive quarterly updates from President Dan Weiss, are invited to a special reception in years when their classes celebrate reunions, and receive credit toward Sustaining Membership. The Marquis Founders dinner, which is held on campus each fall, is open to members of the Marquis Founders Club and above. (Marquis Society members in the 50+ Club and those who graduated within the past decade also receive invitations.) Additional recognition events are held on campus and regionally to acknowledge the invaluable support provided by Marquis Society members.
