The campus community is going to get creative this weekend, as music, dance, art, activities, and food highlight the eighth annual Block pARTy beginning at 3 p.m. Sept. 26, on Parsons Street between Hamilton and McCartney streets.

A wide range of events will take place leading up to the 6 p.m. kickoff of the football game against the University of Pennsylvania. To accommodate the party, the 600 block of Parsons will be closed to traffic with no parking the day of the event.

There will be performances by the Lafayette Dance Cr3w, the Lafayette Dance Team, the Marquis Players, the Pep Band, the Percussion Ensemble, Soulfege, Synchromotion dance company, and W.O.R.D.S. (Writing Organization Reaching Dynamic Students).

Lafayette students with ID may pick up three $1 vouchers to sample food from the Quadrant Book Mart and Coffee House, Mex Tex Trio, and Gilbert’s Café.  Food also can be purchased.

Student organizations will present a wide variety of interactive, art-related and creative activities free of charge. Student organizations with displays will be Association of Black Collegians, Active Minds, the Arts Society, the Asian Cultural Association, the Association of Lafayette Feminists, the Global China Connection-Lafayette Chapter, the Hispanic Society of Lafayette, the International Students Association, the Japanese Interest Floor, Lafayette Activities Forum, Lafayette Dance Cr3w, Lafayette Environmental Awareness and Protection, Lafayette Society for Neuroscience, Make-a-Wish Club, the Marquis literary magazine, the Marquis Players, the Mock Trial team, Music Appreciation Floor, NIA (multicultural women’s support group), Questioning Established Sexual Taboos, Residence Hall Council, STAND, Student Government, Tae Kwon Do Club, and The Residing Association of Dedicated Stitcher’s.

Block pARTy 2009 is presented with major support from Student Government, Lafayette Intercultural Network Council, and the Arts Society; with generous support from the Office of Residence Life, Lafayette Activities Forum, the Maroon Club, and the Office of Recreation Services; and with thanks to the City of Easton, Office of Plant Operations, Office of Public Safety, Williams Center for the Arts, Office of Athletic Communications and Promotions, and the residents of Parsons Street.
