To commemorate the National Day on Writing Oct. 20, the College Writing Program is hosting a campus “write-in.” A large poster will be hung in the Landis Atrium of Farinon College Center, and Lafayette students, faculty, and staff are invited to stop by and write their responses to the prompt, “My words are…” After Tuesday, the poster will be moved to the Watt Writing Room.
The event is being organized by Christian Tatu, coordinator of the College Writing Program, and writing associates Susan Grunewald ’11 (Wilton, Conn.), a Russian and East European studies major; Danielle Hartl ’11 (Morris Plains, N.J.), a government and law major; and Max Minckler ’10 (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), a double major in English and the self-designed philosophy of religion.
Enacted by the United States Senate on Oct. 8, the National Day on Writing focuses on the importance of writing instruction and practice at every grade level, for every student, and in every subject area from preschool through college. Established by the National Council of Teachers of English, the day will provide an opportunity for individuals across the United States to share and exhibit their written works through the National Gallery of Writing.
