A few minutes with Emily Mallory ’09

Emily Mallory ’09, of Camarillo, Calif., is majoring in chemical engineering. She’s a graduate of La Reina High School.

What attracted you to Lafayette?

The small-town feel with a lot of very friendly people. The school is a good liberal arts college with a strong background in engineering. I also came here because there was an equestrian team, and I wanted to continue with riding, but on a smaller scale than my high school.

Tell us about some of your most fascinating Lafayette experiences.

Some of the most fascinating experiences come from spending time with my friends and class mates in and out of class. I have learned so much from my friends and have had amazing times with them, whether it be just having fun or studying for a big exam. The best part of Lafayette is the connections you make with other people, and it is something that I would never give up.

Your favorite courses and professors?

My favorite course was Thermodynamics II taught by Prof. Patricia Darcy. The course was intellectually challenging and brought insight into why chemicals react the way they do with a precise clarity that was refreshing. The class was very difficult, but since it was also very logical, it was easy to do the vast amounts of homework, and the exams were actually interesting because they made perfect sense.

Involved in any student groups or activities?

Equestrian Team, Delta Delta Delta sorority, Resident Advisor, Society of Women Engineers, and American Institute of Chemical Engineers
