Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter speaks at Lafayette.
Nutter’s talk, “The Challenges of Managing the City of Philadelphia,” dealt with how the current recession has brought similar problems to both the big city and smaller communities.
“These are just the things you have to deal with,” said Nutter, “I didn’t create the national economic recession. I can’t get out of the national economic recession. But I can … move the city into the future.”
The seventh annual forum, titled “Municipal Innovation and Sustainability,” was presented by Lafayette’s Meyner Center for the Study of State and Local Government and sponsored by Lafayette Ambassador Bank and Fulton Financial Advisors. The program focused on the current financial challenges facing local governments and approaches to managing energy costs, generating non-traditional sources of revenue, reducing expenditures, and promoting sustainability.
