The Pacific, for which Professor Donald Miller serves as a consultant and writer for accompanying historical material, has been nominated for 24 Emmy Awards, including outstanding miniseries and outstanding directing and writing for a miniseries, movie, or dramatic special. The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be Aug. 29 on NBC.

Miller, John Henry MacCracken Professor of History, is chief historical consultant and writer for The Pacific’s ambitious web site and is historical consultant and on-camera expert on the DVD and Blu-Ray components of the show. The 10-hour World War II miniseries debuted March 14 on HBO. The executive producers are Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman, the creative team behind the Emmy-winning 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.
The web site includes state-of-the-art interactive battle maps of the campaigns featured in the show, a documentary on The Making of The Pacific, a history of the Pacific War, background pieces on each of the show’s episodes, and interviews with Miller and veterans of the war.
Miller is an award-winning author and expert on WWII. Three of his eight books are on the war: Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany (2006); D-Days in the Pacific (2005); and The Story of World War II (2001), all published by Simon & Schuster.
He was writer and chief historical consultant for WWII in HD, a 10-hour series that aired on the History Channel in November 2009, and was inspired by The Story of World War II.He was also a writer and historical consultant with Tom Hanks on Beyond all Boundaries, an IMAX film that is the signature attraction of the National World War II Museum’s Soloman Victory Theater.
