“Zoom,” a new song on the soon-to-be-released CD Too Long Coming by Bill Griese ’91, is the soundtrack for two Fujifilm TV commercials. The spots, which began airing Nov. 14, advertise the company’s line of long-zoom digital cameras.

On a day in late October when the music video for “Zoom,” was to be filmed in Randolph, N.J., Phil Silverberg ’09 got a call from his boss, John Ginty, to play keyboards.
After shooting the video, Silverberg connected with Griese on Facebook. Griese replied, noting that he was a Lafayette alumnus. “It was an amazing coincidence,” says Silverberg. “We spoke only briefly during the shoot, but now have traded messages on Facebook about our Lafayette pasts and musical futures. I had a blast working on the project. Bill has a really great style and vibe about him.”
Griese, a singer/songwriter from Morris Plains, N.J., has been playing acoustic guitar, singing, and writing songs for 20 years. His first CD, For This Day was released in 2003. Nine of the 12 songs were written by Griese, and three were penned with longtime friend and New York City musician Dave Hammer ’92, who is an assistant district attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
In fall 2008, Griese released the song/video “Believe” on YouTube, inspired by the historic election of Barack Obama as the first African American president. In April 2009, Griese and Hammer released “On Three,” which has been signed with a music publisher. The new CD, Too Long Coming, will be released in early 2011and will be available as a CD and as a download from Griese’s web site, through iTunes, and on Amazon, says Griese.
Silverberg, of Livingston, N.J., teaches at The School of Rock, Montclair, N.J. His boss, John Ginty, a Grammy-award winning keyboard/organ player, was the producer for the recording of “Zoom.”
When Silverberg was senior at Lafayette, he wrote the background score for the Class of 2012 orientation video on environmental sustainability. He currently plays keys and harmonica for his group The Don Scandal. The other members are Tom Ambrosole ’08, guitar; Ryan Spitz ’08, guitar, ukelele, and vocals; Hannah Schorr ’08, vocals; and Dave Riley, bass. Their new song, “House” is posted on Facebook, MySpace, and Sound Cloud.

The group has performed at Spike Hill, Brooklyn, where they will return in January.
Silverberg also founded The Dreamcatchers Life LLC., for which he plays guitar for hip-hop/pop instrumentals and works as a hip-hop/pop/R&B producer.
