Percussion Ensemble
The music department will celebrate the holidays with winter season performances from five student ensembles over the next two weeks. All concerts will be held in the Williams Center for the Arts and are open to the public. Free tickets can be acquired by calling the Williams Center box office at (610) 330-5009.
The performances will be: Concert Choir and Chamber Singers at 8 p.m. Dec. 4, Marquis Consort at 3 p.m. Dec. 5, Percussion Ensemble at 8 p.m. Dec. 6, Jazz Ensemble at 8 p.m. Dec. 8, and Concert Band at 8 p.m. Dec. 11.
The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform Deck the Hall! featuring a wide array of sounds, from holiday favorites and the European classical tradition to Brazil, the Middle East, and contemporary America. The choirs are conducted by Jennifer Kelly, assistant professor of music, and accompanied by Patricia O’Connell and Elizabeth Manus on piano. After the concert, cookies and cider will be served in the lobby along with holiday carols.
The Marquis Consort plays renaissance and baroque music using period instruments from the music department’s early instrument collection. It is under the direction of Jorge Torres, associate professor of music.
The Percussion Ensemble will perform a special concert as part of a fall semester project led by Alan and Wendy Pesky Artist-in-Residence Yousif Sheronick of Ethos Percussion Group. The ensemble is directed by Larry Stockton, professor of music.
The Jazz Ensemble big band repertory ranges from swing classic greats such as from Duke Ellington to contemporary music from composers such as Gordon Goodwin, Matt Harris, and Lennie Niehaus. The ensemble is under the direction of Ken Brader.
The Concert Band will perform music featuring composers, Leonard Bernstein, Augusta Read Thomas and Charles Ives, along with the premiere of The Hanging Gardens, a new work by conductor/composer Kirk O’Riordan, assistant professor of music and director of Concert Band.
