Two teams of Lafayette students took the top two places at the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges Mathematics Competition held at Moravian College.
Finishing first in the 21st annual event were civil engineering major Xuan Chen ’13 (Chengdu, China) and math majors Miao Wang ’12 (Cheng De He Bei, China) and Liang Zhang ’13 (Shandong, China).
In second place were math majors Chencong Bao ’11 (Shanghai, China), Jiaqi Li ’12 (Jing Zhou, China), and Peiyuan Mao ’11 (Yangzhou Jiangsu Province, China), who is also majoring in physics.
The contest consists of a three-hour test where students need to work together as a team to solve the problems. It is open to students from Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette, Lehigh University, Moravian, and Muhlenberg College. Lafayette’s teams will be awarded prizes at the Moravian Student Mathematics Conference on Feb. 26, 2011.
