The Patriot League Council of Presidents elected to table a decision to adjust the current need-limited model of financial aid for two years pending additional deliberations related to the league’s strategic direction. The council issued the following statement today:
“Following extensive discussions at their meetings this week, the Patriot League Council of Presidents elected to table a decision to adjust the current need-limited model of financial aid for two years pending additional deliberations related to the league’s strategic direction. We had discussions about various financial aid models and recognized and evaluated the benefits as well as the potential costs associated with athletic merit aid for football. League presidents expressed their commitment to the stability and long-term positioning of the league.”
“The league presidents worked intensely and collaboratively over the course of several days and concluded that our shared commitment to the league and its stability were of the utmost importance. The presidents and others on our campuses will continue to work together to develop a shared vision for football and a strong Patriot League,” said Lafayette President Daniel H. Weiss.
“Lafayette has been a member of the Patriot League since it was formed in 1984, and we remain firmly committed to the league. It also remains our goal to maintain a football program that is competitive,” Weiss said.
Lafayette has been ranked in the top 25 nationally in six of the past seven seasons and has won six Patriot League championships, most recently in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
