The women’s basketball Patriot League quarterfinal contest at Lehigh will be televised live 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, by the Lafayette Sports Network (LSN).
The No. 7-seeded Leopards are looking to upset the No. 2 Mountain Hawks. The teams split the season series, which each team winning on the other’s home court. Lafayette rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit Jan. 22 in Bethlehem to upend Lehigh, 57-54. The Mountain Hawks evened the series with a 70-49 victory in Easton Feb. 19.
The Leopards are led by co-captain LaKeisha Wright ’11, who was named Second Team All-Patriot League for the second consecutive season. The Leopards’ leading scorer in each of the last three campaigns is averaging a team-best 11.9 points per outing as well as 4.6 rebounds. Wright also earned 2007-08 all-rookie team and 2008-09 all-tournament team honors in her career.
Additionally, center Danielle Fiacco ’14 earned an All-Rookie Team nod as one of the elite newcomers in the Patriot League. In 21 games prior to an injury, Fiacco blocked 71 shots – the second-most in a single season and the third-most all-time at Lafayette – and contributed 6.6 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds. She set a Lafayette and Patriot League record with 12 blocked shots in a Dec. 28 win over Quinnipiac, for which she earned All-Tournament Team honors at the 2010 Hawk Classic hosted by Saint Joseph’s University.
Co-champions of the Patriot League regular season, Lehigh enters the tournament at 20-9 overall and on a nine-game winning streak that dates back to its loss to Lafayette Jan. 22.
The 79th meeting between the Leopards and Mountain Hawks extends the most-played series in Lafayette women’s basketball history. The Leopards own a 41-37 advantage. Each team has held a similar edge at home, as Lafayette is 23-13 at Kirby Sports Center and 15-22 at Stabler Arena against Lehigh. The squads have met nine times in the postseason, including both Patriot League and East Coast Conference play.
