Bob VanBlargan, manager of advancement information systems, received the Merit Award for Commons Community Leadership and Impact at the annual SunGuard Summit in New Orleans in March.

VanBlargan oversees the development, maintenance, and integrity of the Advancement database and gift processing.  He received the award based on his commitment, initiative, and impact as a participant of his community in the Commons and his role in facilitating Summit 2011 planning.

Fourteen members of Lafayette staff attended the international summit of over 5,400 professionals who represent all walks of higher education life, running the gamut from academic and advancement officers to IT decision-makers.

SunGuard is one of the leading software and technology services companies in the world.  The Commons Community is an open collaboration of worldwide higher education user communities whose members actively participate in the design and development of technology solutions for their institutions.

“Compared to the corporate environment, the thing I like best about working in information systems for higher education is the willingness to share information and best practices across colleges and universities,” says VanBlargan, who joined Lafayette in 2003 after working as a systems administrator for Guardian Life Insurance.
