On Saturday, Oct. 1, alumni, alumni groups, and a faculty member were recognized at the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony and luncheon in Wilson Room, Pfenning Alumni Center.

John A. Fry ’82, 14th president of Drexel University, received the Kidd Award for distinction in his career. A member of the Board of Trustees, Fry served as executive vice president of University of Pennsylvania from 1996 to 2002 and was president of Franklin & Marshall until 2010 when he was named to his current position. He has served higher education for his entire professional life. Through his roles as a consultant, board member, chief operating officer and chief executive, he has acquired a deep and broad understanding of the challenges of leading a major educational institution.
The award is named for Lafayette’s first graduate, George Washington Kidd, Class of 1836.
The Bell Award was presented to Alan R. Griffith ’64 for distinguished service to the College. Former vice chairman of The Bank of New York Company and The Bank of New York, he has been active in Lafayette’s leadership since the late 1980s. A member of Lafayette’s Board of Trustees since 1994, he served as chair from 2001 to 2010 and continues to serve as a member of the Executive Committee. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2001 and the George T. Woodring ’19 Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999. He and his wife, Elizabeth F. “Penny” Griffith were inducted into the Société d’Honneur in 2005. In recognition of their generous support of the modernization of Skillman Library, the Special Collections Suite is named in their honor. In 2005-06, he established the Griffith Consistent Giver Match as an incentive to the College’s young alumni. He was the first chair of the Lafayette Leadership Council and was a member of the All-College Task Force on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (1998) and All-College Committee on Selectivity (1999). He also hosted student groups at his workplace.
The award is named in honor of Joseph E. Bell ’28, who retired as alumni secretary in 1968.

Recognizes the achievements of a long-term Alumni Association volunteer whose service is both dedicated and effective. Named for George T. Woodring ’19.
WOODRING VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD: Liza P. Lucy ’74
Recognizes an Alumni Association volunteer for outstanding leadership during the previous year.
GREENIP AWARD: Jennifer K. Blasko ’95
Recognizes a currently active alumni chapter officer based on voluntary service achievements over and above the faithful carrying out of regular officer assignments. Honors the memory of William E. Greenip ’44, former Alumni Association Secretary.
CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD: San Francisco
Recognizes an alumni chapter for providing quality and diverse events while cultivating the chapter’s leadership and promoting area alumni participation.
CHAPTER EVENT CHAIR PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD: Alex L. Karapetian ’04 and Amanda L. Niederauer ’08
Recognizes an individual that exudes leadership in the planning and execution of chapter events and echoes a chapter’s commitment to promote a diverse array of events for alumni, parents, and friends of the College.
CHAPTER SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD: Carrie R. Chaitt ’03
Recognizes an individual who continually strives to promote alumni activity and interaction within his or her respective chapter.
HUGHES CORRESPONDENT AWARD: Paige Olek Ingelsby ’01
Recognizes an effective writer who exercises class leadership through the column and unifies classmates in support of the College. Named for Wilson E. Hughes ’38.
HUHN CORRESPONDENT AWARD: Douglas A. Hobby ’61
Recognizes a correspondent who actively seeks out and includes in the column many classmates from diverse regions and walks of life. Named for Elmer E. Huhn ’24.
WILDSTEIN CORRESPONDENT AWARD: Arthur H. Goldsmith ’71
Recognizes a long-time correspondent who is faithful and prompt in submitting positive, upbeat columns. Named for Bernard S. Wildstein ’35.
WEB MASTER AWARD: David E. Cary ’57
Recognizes a volunteer whose efforts promote and support the timely, accurate, and creative dissemination of information among classmates through class or chapter web pages.
AA STUDENT VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Caitlin Flood ’12
Recognizes a current student who, through his or her volunteer efforts in the broader community beyond the College, has demonstrated compassion, energy, and ingenuity in serving others.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SPECIAL COMMENDATION: Bruce Drinkhouse ’50
Presented to a member or members of the Lafayette community illustrating loyal commitment in supporting the goals of the College and Alumni Association.
DANIEL L. GOLDEN ’34 FACULTY SERVICE AWARD: David A. Veshosky, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering
Recognizes faculty members for distinguished volunteer service to Lafayette College through the Lafayette College Alumni Association and its organized alumni activities.

Named for Barry W. McCarty, former dean of enrollment services.
AAR GEOGRAPHIC OUTREACH AWARD: Hongyi Yin ’92
Recognizes an AAR member whose dedication and effectiveness during a period of a year or more has significantly improved Lafayette’s image and student recruitment potential in an area outside the College’s traditional tri-state area.
WILLIAM G. WILSON DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD: Carol McArthur Amedeo ’87
The highest honor that can be bestowed for service to Lafayette through the AAR program. The recipient will have served with sustained distinction, effectively performing all expected duties during a period of several years or more. In addition, he or she will have demonstrated initiative and creativity, and will have inspired others through leadership and example.
