Bruce McCutcheon

Bruce McCutcheon

Bruce McCutcheon, director of athletics, will remain in that post instead of joining the Office of Development as lead fundraiser for athletics.

McCutcheon, who is in his 11th year as director of Lafayette’s 23-sport NCAA Division I intercollegiate program, announced in July that he planned to step away from the position after this academic year to take on a new role as director of athletic development, citing the importance of increasing the financial strength of the athletics program.

But James W. Dicker ’85, vice president for development and college relations, has asked McCutcheon to stay on as athletics director.

“With the benefit of perspective on both fundraising and athletics, I have come to feel this fall, as the process of identifying Bruce’s successor as athletics director began unfolding, that his greatest contribution to the mission and success of the athletics program and of the College will be through his continued leadership in athletics,” Dicker said. “So I have asked him to continue as director of athletics. I am pleased and grateful that he has agreed to remain in that important role, and I look forward to working with him.”

The Department of Athletics joined the Division of Development and College Relations, reporting to Dicker, in September. The College will soon launch a search for a director of athletic development, Dicker added.
