Lafayette is one of only seven private liberal arts colleges to be awarded four stars – the highest rating – in a new evaluation of nearly 5,500 charities by Charity Navigator.

Called “the first and best stop for would-be donors” by Kiplinger’s, Charity Navigator evaluates charities annually on two components – (1) financial health and (2) accountability and transparency – in order to “advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace.”

Other liberal arts colleges receiving four stars are Carleton, Davidson, Oberlin, St. Olaf, Smith, and University of Puget Sound.

In the education arena, Charity Navigator, begun in 2002, also evaluates universities, graduate schools, technological institutes, private elementary and secondary schools, and other education programs and services. It evaluates charities in these categories as well: animals, arts/culture/humanities, environment, health, international, public benefit, and religion.
