Lafayette’s men’s and women’s soccer programs have received National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Awards. Eligible programs must have earned a collective grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2010-11 academic year.

The men’s team had a 3.23 GPA in 2010-11 and 13 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections. Additionally, Luke Calvano ’12 (Eastampton, N.J.), a double major in economics and policy studies, was named to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League squad in the 2010 season. The team has been recognized by the NSCAA in each of the last four years.

Academic success has been a constant during head coach Dennis Bohn‘s 11-year tenure. His athletes combined for 110 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections in his first decade on College Hill, not including the league’s 2011 list that is yet to be determined.

This past season, which was the Leopards’ 11th straight winning season, Graham Heydt ’12 (Northbrook, Ill.), a mathematics-economics major, and Blake Fink ’13 (Westampton, N.J.), a government and law major, earned Academic All-Patriot League honors. Fink was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District II team.

The women’s team posted a 3.35 GPA in 2010-11 and produced 17 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections. Of those selections, Meredith McCann ’12 (Hingham, Mass.), a policy studies major, and Gina Milone ’12 (Massapequa, N.Y.), a biology major, each posted 4.0 grade-point averages.

On the field, Lafayette posted a 9-5-2 record and earned the number two seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The Leopards enjoyed a 6-0-0 home record and a Patriot League mark of 4-2-1.

Coach Bohn should be congratulated on a job well done. Dennis is a talented and dedicated coach; he has taken the soccer program to the next level and more. I have appreciated getting to know Coach Bohn. He should be recognized for his efforts on the playing fieId, as well as off the field, where he does a great job keeping the alumni involved.
I throughly enjoyed playing soccer at Lafayette College from 1971-74 under coaches Gary Williams and Rado Pribic. Not gifted athletically, I looked forward to practicing everyday on the beautiful Metzgar Fields and the surrounding corn fields. I especially enjoyed playing at Lafayette with a high school star teammate- Dr. Tony Maglione. At the same time, playing soccer gave me the opportunity to meet some wonderful people: Bruce Jones, Rick Chew, and Jamie McLaughlin and many others. Jamie, I believe, had a very positive influence playing as well as coaching.
Coach Bohn, keep up the great work.
