Paul McCurdy '82

Paul McCurdy ’82, a College trustee and former Alumni Association president, has been elected chair of his law firm, Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, Stamford, Conn. He is recognized as a leading practitioner by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

McCurdy was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2010 after completing a two-year term as president of the Alumni Association preceded by two years as president-elect. He was a member of Marquis Parents Council in 2010 and a member of Lafayette Leadership Council from 2003-06. His volunteer roles at Lafayette also include class fund agent, class fund manager, and internship and externship sponsor.

A member of Marquis Circle, he established the McCurdy Family Scholarship Fund in 2008 to provide financial aid to a student from Connecticut or New York who majors in English or government and law with preference to an inner-city resident. A government and law graduate, McCurdy was a member of the swim team, Maroon Key, and Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity as a student.

McCurdy joined Kelley Drye in 1987 and was elected to the executive committee in 2006. In addition to his new role, he will remain as chair of the firm’s broker-dealer practice group, representing retail, clearing, direct access, and advisory firms in regulatory, enforcement, compliance, corporate, and litigation matters. He holds a J.D. from Albany Law School.

Founded in 1836, Kelley Drye has offices in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Stamford, Conn., and Parsippany, N.J., and overseas in Brussels.

McCurdy succeeds John M. Callagy, the firm’s first chair, who has served in that role since 1992.

“Under Paul’s leadership, we will continue to serve our clients well in the new landscape of the legal profession,” Callagy said.

McCurdy said, “Under John’s leadership, Kelley Drye became a stronger and better firm, with international reach, premier practice groups, and an impressive roster of clients. I look forward to working with our partners to achieve our client service and growth goals for the years ahead while continuing the firm’s 175-year tradition of providing excellent legal work and counsel.”

In his community, McCurdy has served on the development committee of Joe Torre Safe-@-Home Foundation since 2003. He was a Department of Parks and Recreation commissioner for New Canaan, Conn., from 1999-2005 and a director of the YMCA from 1997-2003.

McCurdy is a member of the legal and compliance division, Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
