Thirteen of Lafayette’s 23 varsity teams have received 2011-12 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP) Public Recognition Awards.
The NCAA is honoring 954 Division I teams for their high marks academically, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rates (APR). These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with their APRs. The APR is the NCAA’s measure of academic achievement.

Each of Lafayette’s 13 honored teams participate in Patriot League play: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, golf, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s outdoor track and field.
The Patriot League was second only to the Ivy League for overall teams honored at full-member institutions—34 men’s and 45 women’s programs.
The APR measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter, and the most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2010-11 academic years.
In seven years of the NCAA’s academic reform program, 2,946 different teams have received Public Recognition Awards, representing 46 percent of eligible teams during that time. Of that total, 209 teams have received Public Recognition Awards each of the seven years of the program. Last year, 909 teams were recognized.
