As the search for Lafayette’s 17th president begins, it is the intent of this committee to fulfill its responsibilities in a careful and thoughtful manner. We are confident that we will be able to present to the Board of Trustees for their approval an individual committed to the College’s mission who has the skills, demonstrated experience, and leadership qualities to further position the College as one of the nation’s outstanding liberal arts institutions. We anticipate this search will take six months and have engaged Storbeck/Pimentel Associates, a higher education search firm, to assist us in this effort.
In the initial phase of the search, the committee will be reaching out to our various constituencies to discuss the current state of the College, our aspirations for its future, and most importantly, the desired qualifications of our new president. Once the marketing of the position formally begins, an effort will be underway to identify potential candidates and encourage their application. The work of evaluating applicants will then commence. After an initial screening, the committee will conduct confidential interviews of candidates in addition to initial referencing where appropriate. This will be followed by a second round of interviews of those candidates who were considered the most qualified. From this, a small group of finalists will be identified. This final group will be invited to campus for additional interviews and extensive reference checking.
The search committee welcomes input from the members of the Lafayette community through the form provided in this website. Your thoughts on the most critical issues (challenges and opportunities) our next president must face, and the qualifications/characteristics that person must possess, would be most appreciated by those of us charged with selecting our next president.
