With two wins last week, the Lafayette field hockey team has maintained its Top 20 standing in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, sitting at 14th.
With a 10-1 overall record, the Leopards cemented their position among the best in the country with a 5-2 win over Penn and a 6-1 defeat of Colgate on Saturday in the Patriot League home opener.

“The ranking reflects consistency in our results, which comes from consistency in our play,” head coach Andrew Griffiths said. “We have played well in most of our games over the past month. The challenge now will be to take it to a higher level over the next few weeks over the stretch of our season.”
Co-captains Emily Valeo ’13 and Deanna DiCroce ’13 are putting together outstanding seasons for the Lafayette attack. Valeo is second in the nation in assists per game (1.09) and leads the Patriot League in assists (12), while DiCroce sits 11th nationally in points per game (2.27) and sits atop the league in points (25) and goals (8).
Goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch ’15 holds the seventh position in the nation in goals-against average (1.26), leading the league in that category and save percentage (.725).
Arguably Lafayette’s biggest test of the season will be a meeting with Bucknell this Saturday at Rappolt Field at noon. The contest, a rematch of the Leopards’ 3-1 victory in the 2011 Patriot League Championship game, will decide first place in the league standings.
