Nearly all of Lafayette’s 22,000 alumni had an experience during their four years at the College or in the years afterward in which a special moment or interaction changed their life.
Beginning this week, alumni are sharing stories about these experiences through a new project called “Compass: Experiences that launched lives.”
“We are who we are today because of the impact of others on our lives,” says Robert J. Massa, vice president for communications. “Compass provides alumni with an opportunity to recognize a professor who shaped their future, a fellow student who shared a passion, or a staff member who made a difference. I look forward to learning about the ‘cur non moments’ of our former students.”
Read stories about professor mentors, key networking experiences, courses, and extracurricular activities that impacted individuals when they were students and continue to influence their lives today.
Gina Arias ’93 says, “College should not be an ivory tower where you isolate yourself from the world. Professor John McCartney really helped me think about politics as a force that required you to act in the world—beyond simply voting.” For Josh Oshinsky ’00, “the passion to create quality entertainment as a career stemmed from the theatrical success we had as a program while I was at Lafayette.”
Compass is a growing collection of stories from alumni about experiences that shaped their college careers and lives and helped set the course for who they have become or the success they have achieved.
These stories unite the community, inspire new generations, and record the excellence that is Lafayette.
