Each spring, a group of students spends the semester studying engineering and German language and culture in Lafayette’s faculty-led program at Jacobs University Bremen in Germany.

The program enables engineering students to earn engineering credits while studying abroad so they will not fall behind in their curricular requirements. The following photos were taken by chemical engineering major Xingjian “Max” Ma ’14 (Shenyang, China) in Bremen and beyond.

The faculty-led semester gives students the best of both worlds. They get to experience a foreign culture with the guidance of familiar faculty mentors, taking classes from Lafayette professors as well as those at host institutions. They also take part in field trips, which are planned and led by Lafayette faculty with the help of local organizers.

The College also offers faculty-led semester abroad programs in London, England; Madrid, Spain; and San Jose, Costa Rica. Previous faculty-led semesters have been in Athens, Greece; Brussels, Belgium; and Dijon, France.
