Sixteen of Lafayette’s 23 Division I sports have received 2012-13 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Award.
The awards are given to teams scoring in the top 10 percent of Academic Progress Rates (APR), the NCAA’s measure of academic achievement for every Division I sports team.
Each of Lafayette’s 16 teams honored participate in Patriot League play: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and women’s volleyball.
The APR measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter, and the most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years.
The Leopards sit second in the Patriot League with 16 teams honored, just behind Bucknell with 19. Colgate followed with 12 teams and Holy Cross notched 11 squads. Next was Lehigh with nine teams, followed by American with two, and M.I.T., Army, and Navy with one apiece.
