The foundation allows student-athletes to continue their athletic and academic careers by playing on a collegiate team and studying in a graduate program at an Irish or Northern Irish university. A key focus of Mintz’s contributions will be working with youth in community programs designed to raise aspirations.

“This has been a terrific cultural, athletic, and academic experience for our former Lafayette student-athletes,” Lafayette head basketball coach Fran O’Hanlon says. “It is a wonderful opportunity and I expect Jared to contribute great things to this legacy.”

The Patriot League entered into a partnership with Sports Changes Lives in December 2009 to facilitate opportunities for student-athletes to secure a Graduate Development International Scholarship. Four Lafayette student-athletes have participated in the program: Matt Betley ’08, Paul Cummins ’08, Sarah McGorry ’12, and Jim Mower ’12.

Mintz finished his college basketball career with 1,245 points and 516 rebounds, and remains in the Patriot League top 10 in career field-goal percentage. He averaged 10.2 points per game and was one of the Patriot League’s most dangerous post players while helping his squad to back-to-back appearances in the league title game as a junior and senior, earning first-team All-Patriot League honors in the process. Mintz graduated with a B.S. in biology and qualified for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as a senior.

Congratulations to Jared Mintz and all other Lafayette post grad scholarship winners!

I have never understood why Lafayette does not appear in the approved deck of colleges eligible
for Thomas J. Watson Scholarships for international study outside the USA………………

Thomas J. Watson, Sr. was the founding CEO of the IBM Corporation, for whom I worked for
over 30 years, and was a long-time member of the Lafayette Board of Trustees……………

I would hope that this omission could be researched and rectified!
