President Alison Byerly emailed the following message to the campus community today:
Dear Students, and Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
On behalf of her family, I am writing with appreciation for the generous outpouring of support that the Lafayette community has provided for Aubrey Baumbach, Class of 2017, since last Friday evening’s accident. As you can read in the link below, Aubrey has had several surgeries this week and physicians have been working around the clock to provide the very best care for her.
The countless cards and well-wishes that many of you expressed in writing at Tuesday’s basketball game and on South College’s bulletin boards have been delivered to Aubrey’s parents and sisters. These words of encouragement have served to lift her family’s spirits and given them insights into the friendships and relationships that Aubrey has made at Lafayette since arriving in August.
Aubrey’s sister has set up a Facebook page, Aubrey’s Odyssey: https://www.facebook.com/groups/613513448709742/ , in order to provide updates about Aubrey’s recovery. Her parents have asked us to invite Lafayette students to upload photos that you may have taken with Aubrey, which they would greatly enjoy seeing, and any notes of support that you would like to share.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many individuals and offices that have devoted enormous time and energy to supporting both the Baumbach family and the College community, including College Physician Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein, who has been in constant contact with the family and the doctors treating Aubrey; Dean of Students Paul McLoughlin, Vice President Annette Diorio, and members of the Campus Life staff; and the Public Safety officers who assisted with aspects of the Easton Police Department investigation. The Easton Police Department did a remarkable job in rapidly identifying and apprehending the driver of the car involved in the accident.
While we all wish that we could do more, please know that what you have done means a great deal to Aubrey’s family. It also illustrates Lafayette’s strength as a community, a community that comes together in solidarity during the most difficult times to support one another.
