Earlier this month, students gathered in the Marlo Room to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights and happiness. They enjoyed traditional Hindu performances, Indian food, and henna painting.
“One of the goals of Diwali is for families to unite and people from all parts of the world to celebrate and share each others’ cultures. I hope everyone that attended came away understanding that being different makes us who we are, and those differences should be respected and celebrated,” says organizer Namrata Joshi ’16 (Mwanza, Tanzania). “Diwali is also about learning the way of life, and major teachings like faith, love for family, hope, and sacrifice.”
