In her first State of the College address, on opening night of Reunion Weekend, President Alison Byerly touched on her first impressions of Lafayette, notable accomplishments at the College during the past year, and new initiatives under way and under discussion.

Noting that this occasion was the last time she would be introduced as “Lafayette’s new president,” Byerly emphasized the warm welcome she has received from alumni since being named president.
“It’s a great pleasure to get the chance to talk with all of you today about how things are going this year and what we see happening at the College,” she said. “In many ways alumni were among the first people to introduce me to Lafayette as I came to know the College well a year and a half ago. . . . One of the things I learned very quickly is that Lafayette alumni are among the most dedicated in the country.”
The presence of so many alumni at Reunion is a testament to that, she added.
A question-and-answer session following her remarks enabled Byerly to get a sense of what alumni want to know about the College.
“We think a lot about how we can communicate best with alums,” she said. “What are the things that you’d like to hear more about, what are the things that interest you, what are the things we can do make you feel more connected?”

Nice Job. Refreshing viewpoint. Glad she came to Lafayette. Especially like the emphasis on social value added educational approach and preservation of Greek Life as an option.
