We are several weeks into the semester and the weather is finally changing. Leaves are transitioning and sweaters are resurfacing around campus. That’s right, it’s officially fall and one of my favorite Lafayette traditions, Fall Fest, was last weekend.

Brought to campus in 2010 by Lafayette Activities Forum, Fall Fest is a great way to celebrate being back at Laf after a needed fall break.

Here are a few things I love about Fall Fest:

1. Food

Caramel Apples

Yes, cakes and cookies and other treats are fine too, but how often are you really presented with the chance to devour a crisp apple, covered in a perfectly proportioned caramel coating, decorated with some type of topping. Yum… I mean really, what else is there to say?

2. Activities

Pumpkins

One of my favorite Fall Fest activities is pumpkin painting. Painting never gets the attention it deserves—a stress reliever, good old fashioned fun, and a great creative outlet. Last year, a group of girls from my floor all painted pumpkins, brought them back to our residence hall, and put their masterpieces outside of their doors. Walking to my room each day and seeing the pumpkins, reminded me of home, but also made our floor feel much more like a community.

3. Fun

Friends

There is no better way to spend a fall day than hanging out with friends on the Quad. For me, fall is my favorite season, and I love the smell in the air. Having an afternoon to relax on the Quad and catch up with my friends was greatly needed, especially in the midst of midterms and other exams and projects. Fall Fest was an excuse to step outside, get some fresh air, and take the afternoon off.
