For the first time, each member of the graduating class will receive a gift from the Alumni Association during Commencement on May 19.

Alumni Association President Lisa Kassel ’79 P ’13 will present a pewter photo frame adorned with images of the Marquis de Lafayette and Pardee Hall to the more than 610 graduates after President Alison Byerly hands them their diploma.

“The idea is to welcome our newest graduates to the Alumni Association, a very special group of 29,000-plus alumni,” says Kassel, noting this will not replace the association’s ceremonial passing of the flag to the first-year class during Convocation.

Along with the frame, graduates will receive information about LeopardLink, an online community for Lafayette alumni. Information about alumni chapters, upcoming events, career opportunities, and a variety of resources is on the site.

“The hope is that they become involved wherever they land, and go to events and stay connected,” Kassel says.

Conferring of the frames will be Kassel’s second-to-last official duty as president before her term expires next month. Her final act will be passing the gavel to incoming president Jon Ellis ’98 during Reunion Weekend June 1-3.

Can former alumni purchase this frame? I would love to have one!

The frames are a special gift just for grads and are not for sale.
