Survey indicates that Fed may have to raise interest rates again to tame persistent inflation
Prof. Julie Smith was quoted in the Sept. 18 edition of the Financial Times about expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates before year’s end.
Smith, Frank Lee and Edna M. Smith professor of economics, along with economists from Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Notre Dame, and other institutions, were asked to respond to a survey of academic economists that indicated further interest rate increases from the Fed may be required to tame inflation.
Smith noted that inflation persists, with the housing market and consumer spending remaining strong.
