Article discusses the Good Friday pilgrimage by a group of Catholics who travel to Santuario de Chimayo, in northern New Mexico
The Conversation, a nonprofit, independent news organization that publishes content written by academic experts for the general public, ran an article on March 26 by Prof. Brett Hendrickson about the annual Holy Week pilgrimage by Hispanos, or Nuevomexicanos, who have lived in Chimayó, New Mexico, for generations and travel by foot to a small church built in the early 1800s.
In his article, Hendrickson, professor of religious studies and department head, notes that he participated in the pilgrimage in 2015 as part of the research for his book, “The Healing Power of the Santuario de Chimayó: America’s Miraculous Church,” published by NYU Press in 2017.
