Philip Jefferson smiles.Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson will speak on the U.S. economic outlook and monetary policy Feb. 4, 7:30 p.m. in Oechsle Hall 224. His presentation, sponsored by the Department of Economics and the Division of Inclusion, is free and open to the public and will be livestreamed for the media.

“Lafayette College is honored to welcome Vice Chair Philip Jefferson of the Federal Reserve System to our campus,” Susan Averett, Charles A. Dana Professor of Economics, and Julie Smith, Frank Lee and Edna M. Smith Professor of Economics and assistant department head, said in a joint statement. 

“As a key decision-maker in U.S. monetary policy and a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, Dr. Jefferson plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s economic landscape. Beyond his influence at the Fed, he is a distinguished scholar in macroeconomics and poverty. His visit offers a rare opportunity to engage with one of the most powerful and influential policymakers in the country.”

Jefferson took office as the vice chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Sept. 13, 2023, for a four-year term. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System since taking office May 23, 2022, to fill an unexpired term ending Jan. 31, 2036.
