Rogers Orock, assistant professor of Africana studies
Rogers Orock, assistant professor of Africana studies, was quoted in two April 2 Reuters articles about the April 12 presidential election in Gabon, the central African country’s first since August 2023.
In the first of the Reuters articles, Orock, who studies elites in West Africa and questions around power, morality, leadership, and corruption, expressed doubts that the elections would be fair.
In the second article, Orock notes that Gabon’s former prime minister, Alain Claude Billie By Nze, who’s challenging interim President Brice Oligui Nguema and who assumed power through a 2023 military coup, is associated with the old order by voters.
