Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at the real estate brokerage and technology firm Redfin, will discuss her new book, Hate the Game: Economic Cheat Codes for Life, Love, and Work (University of Chicago Press), which offers practical advice on how the economy impacts individuals, especially those who feel they’re missing out. Her talk is part of the Economic Seminar Series, sponsored by the Economics Department.

Fairweather will be projected on the screen in Oechsle 224, presenting her lecture to an in-person audience and taking questions afterward about her book, her work as an economist, and her career. Students will have an opportunity to win a copy of her book after attending the lecture in person.

“We’re thrilled to present Dr. Fairweather, who has a gift for presenting information in a way that reduces the anxieties often associated with important economic decisions, whether it’s buying a home or navigating career choices,” says Julie Smith, Frank Lee and Edna M. Smith Professor of Economics and assistant department head. “Students, faculty, and staff will enjoy hearing her discuss her book and her own lessons from her remarkable life and career.”

In addition to her work at Redfin, Fairweather serves as a member of the academic advisory council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and is a regular contributor to Forbes. Formerly, she was a senior economist at Amazon. Her work has been featured in 60 Minutes, Today, The New York Times, and Bloomberg.
