More than 100 Lafayette students and Easton residents gathered Nov. 4 to participate in the second annual Mental Miles 5K, which ran through campus, starting and finishing at the Williams Center for the Arts.
The run was the first large event the Mental Health Coalition of Lafayette College has held since its inception just over a year ago.
Daniel Goodman ’20, chair of the Mental Health Coalition Events Committee, says the goal is to raise awareness of mental health issues and show support for those combating their own struggles.
“We formed the Mental Health Coalition to bring mental health out of the stigma that it’s wound up in, and having large numbers of your classmates, friends, and peers waking up early, raising money, and running to support this cause hopefully has that impact,” Goodman says.
Money raised through registration fees from Mental Miles 5K participants and Mental Health Coalition T-shirt sales was donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
