Lust and Leisure in Edo Japan, an exhibit of Japanese woodblock prints that depict popular forms of entertainment such as teahouses, brothels, and Kabuki Theater during Edo period Japan (1603–1868), will run through Dec. 12 in the William Center Gallery. The prints are selected from the Allentown Art Museum’s large collection of Japanese woodblock prints.
The exhibition curator is Ingrid Furniss, assistant professor of art. The prints are loaned courtesy of the Allentown Art Museum, Lehigh University, and the collection of Edward G. and Jacqueline M. Atkins.
There will be a reception and a performance of Japanese percussion by the Percussion Ensemble at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Williams Center lobby. Furniss will present an illustrated curator talk at noon Wednesday, Nov. 17 in the Williams Center room 108.
Williams Center Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon–5 p.m. and 7:30–9:15 p.m. on performance evenings. The Lafayette College Art Galleries are funded in part through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
