Tom Hampsey
Among the top advancement researchers in the country, Tom Hampsey was recently elected to serve as one of seven directors of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Director of development research in the Office of Development and College Relations, he recently completed a second term as president of PREP/APRA, the Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Chapter of APRA.
Hampsey also serves on the nominations and leadership development committee.
APRA is an organization of fund-raising research professionals. The role they serve at educational institutions as well as organizations and corporations is to “collect, evaluate, analyze, organize, package, and disseminate publicly available information in a way that maximizes its usefulness and enables accurate and educated decision-making,” according to the organization’s description.
A regular speaker on a variety of research topics, Hampsey received APRA’s Margaret Fuhry Grant in 2007 and was awarded the CASE “Faculty Star” designation in 2010.
Hampsey joined Lafayette in 1997, leading the research office during the Lafayette Leadership Campaign. Previously, he served as associate director of development research at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He holds a bachelor’s in history from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Md., and a master’s in history from University of Scranton where he received the Graduate Student History Award.
