Lauren Anderson ’04, William Jeffers Director of Engineering, James T. Marcus ’50 Scholar and professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering
Research areas: Tissue engineering, specifically the interface between cells and materials, which explores thermoresponsive polymers for their ability to serve as an alternative cell-culture substrate for growing cell sheets for eventual transplantation.
Her Lafayette journey: Anderson, who graduated from Lafayette in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, joined the Lafayette faculty in 2009. Funded by a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, she completed her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at University of Virginia. Before her appointment as the William Jeffers Director of Engineering, which was announced this spring, she served as department head of chemical and biomolecular engineering since 2015.
