WFMZ-69 News, PoliticsPA carry Kincaid's views on election of state and federal House speakers
Prof. John Kincaid was quoted in a Jan. 5 WFMZ-69 News report about the protracted balloting for a House speaker.
U.S. Kevin McCarthy of California won election early Saturday (1/7) as House speaker after 15-ballots across five days, the longest search for a speaker since 1855, said Kincaid, Robert B. and Helen S. Meyner Professor of Government and Public Service. He noted that the political discord among the GOP-held House could portend difficulty in getting legislation passed during the 118th Congress.
Kincaid was also quoted in a Jan. 3 article in PoliticsPA about Democratic Rep. Mark Rozzi’s election as speaker of the narrowly divided Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“Rozzi’s election is a complete surprise but a welcome sign of sanity and bipartisanship in our legislature,” he said.
