Smith shares an interest rate cut is likely on the horizon
Julie Smith, Frank Lee and Edna M. Smith Professor of Economics and assistant department head, is quoted in a Sept. 9 Marketplace episode about the potential impact the latest consumer price index (CPI) inflation reading could have on Federal Reserve’s interest rate policymakers’ upcoming decision. She notes that the inflation number this week is important but is not likely to change the interest rate cut that is predicted.
Smith teaches a wide variety of macroeconomic courses, including those relating to her specialty of monetary policy. Smith often provides economic commentary on the American Public Media program, Marketplace. She also serves as an associate editor of the Eastern Economic Journal.
