Ignat Solzhenitsyn
The Williams Center for the Arts marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with a return engagement by pianist Ignat Solzhenitsyn on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. The all-Schumann recital will feature Robert Schumann’s Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6 and Kreisleriana (Fantasien), Op. 16.
Ignat Solzhenitsyn is the principal guest conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and has just stepped down after six seasons as music director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia to become its Conductor Laureate. He is in demand as a guest conductor, having recently led the symphonies of Baltimore, Dallas, Seattle, Toledo, Toronto, and others, as well as many of the major orchestras in Russia. He has partnered with such world-renowned soloists as Richard Goode, Steven Isserlis, Sylvia McNair, Garrick Ohlsson, and Mitsuko Uchida.
A winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Solzhenitsyn serves on the piano faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
