During the April 8 broadcast of American Public Media’s Marketplace, Amy Guisinger, associate professor of economics, offered her views on the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) and the Consumer Price Index (CPI), key measures of inflation, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics prepares to release inflation data.

Guisinger, who appears at about the 18 minute mark in the broadcast, noted that there’s a trade-off between speed and comprehensiveness in data collection, comparing it to a tug and pull between being fast and being thorough.
