Seven members of the Lafayette Skiing and Snowboarding Club will compete at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association’s 34th annual national championships March 5-10 at Sunday River Ski Resort in Maine.

Lafayette’s team is currently made up of 61 students, who compete during a month-and-a-half season starting in mid-January in the USCSA’s New Jersey Conference. The top individual and team performers qualify for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, which were held Feb. 25-26.

The team had its best showing ever at the regional tournament. The women’s alpine team took second place and will compete in slalom and giant slalom at nationals. The team’s top five racers will make the trip: Catherine Condit ’14 (Fairfield, Conn.), Margaret Del Col ’15 (Darien, Conn.), Samantha Ladell ’14 (Livingston, N.J.), Julia Mason ’13 (Fairfield, Conn.), and Rebekah Scharfe ’15 (Manchester, Mass.).

Reed Shapiro ’14 (New York, N.Y.) took second place in freestyle skiing at the regional level and will compete at nationals. Rachel Shore ’15 (Scarsdale, N.Y.) placed third in snowboarder giant slalom and also qualified for nationals.
