Members of Lafayette’s student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) toured the Air Products facility in Hometown, Pa., earlier this spring. The students, who were all juniors, were taking the Applied Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer and Process Control courses and were able to see the concepts from class applied in an industrial setting.

“The students were able to connect how their instruction here at Lafayette, both in lectures and in lab, will be beneficial and directly useful as they enter industry,” says AICHE faculty adviser Michael Senra, visiting assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, who teaches the Process Control course. “I hope that the students gained a greater appreciation of the roles of chemical engineers in the workforce and how interwoven a chemical engineer’s job is with so many people from so many different backgrounds, a statement that is true whether they enter specialty gases, petroleum, food, or pharmaceuticals.”
