Law partner with Apell & Detrick, P.C., Browns Mills, N.J., Jeffrey S. Apell '89 was recently appointed to a four-year term on the District IIIB (Burlington County) Ethics Committee. The committee is responsible for screening inquiries, investigating grievances, prosecuting complaints, holding hearings, and issuing reports regarding the discipline of attorneys in New Jersey.
The Burlington County Bar Association presented its Robert W. Criscuolo Award to Apell in 1999, in recognition of his service to the association and the community. He was also recently nominated for the New Jersey State Bar Association's Real Estate, Probate, Trust Committee. A Burlington County Bar Association trustee, Apell has lectured on real estate and probate issues for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Bar Association.
A government and law graduate with a minor in classical languages and literatures, Apell received his J.D. degree from Widener University School of Law. After clerking for Judge Victor Friedman in Mt. Holly, N.J., he joined his father's firm, Apell & Detrick.
“My practice is primarily real estate, matrimonial, wills, and probate litigation,” says Apell. “At Lafayette, Professor Peleg and Professor Lennertz spurred my interest in law-they made the law come alive. Professor Marblestone was an important influence as well. His classes were small, and the discussions and one-on-one attention were memorable.”
