Alan I. Model '90 has been promoted to partner at Grotta, Glassman & Hoffman, P.A., a law practice that focuses on the representation of management in employment, labor, business immigration, and employee benefits law and related litigation. Model, who joined the firm in 1993, represents employers in employment discrimination matters, compliance with the National Labor Relations Act, long-term labor objectives and strategies, union organizing campaigns, and contract negotiations.

Model trains and advises human resources professionals on drafting policies and provides counseling on a variety of workplace issues such as sex discrimination, harassment, diversity, and downsizing. He also helps employers develop strategies for opening new facilities, mergers, and relocations.

An economics and business graduate, Model received his law degree from George Washington University. He became interested in labor law as an undergraduate. “One of the adjunct professors was Ed Feege, a business lawyer in Allentown who specialized in the management side of labor law. I had an internship with his firm, Duane Morris & Heckscher, and it sparked my interest,” he says. “In my second year of law school I began taking employment and labor law courses.”

Model, who is licensed in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, is chair of the young lawyers section of Essex County, N.J. Bar Association. He is editor of New Jersey HR Manager's Report, a monthly publication on employment and labor law.
