William W. Scott Jr. '63, FASM, was named acting managing director of ASM International last fall, when former managing director Michael J. DeHaemer stepped down. ASM International, the society for materials engineers and scientists, is a worldwide network dedicated to advancing industry, technology, and applications of metals and materials.
Scott, a metallurgical engineering graduate with a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania, accepted a research position with Lukens Steel (now part of Bethlehem Steel) upon graduation. He held various positions there for 15 years, managing the research and development lab for seven years before leaving the company. He joined ASM in 1983 as technical director, responsible for conferences, expositions, journals, and the alloy phase diagram program. He is currently responsible for reference publications, including books, journals, phase diagram products, and databases. Scott has been associate managing director for the last five years.
