Through more than 30 years of practice as a psychiatrist, Dr. Guido D. Boriosi '54 has come to some simple, common sense conclusions about human behavior. He shares these in his first book, Understanding Yourself–It's So Darn Easy, published by Rutledge Books, Inc.
“If you're looking for high octane you don't want to read my book,” says Boriosi, who prefers to use layman's terms and include plenty of real-life examples. “You won't find complex theories or psychological terms.” The book is a hit with patients and readers seeking a better understanding of everyday situations. One chapter, for example, begins, “Expressing what you want but making no demands is the key to a good marriage.”
“My approach is getting people to accept that they are humans, not gods, and the others they are dealing with are also humans and not gods,” Boriosi says. “You have to permit yourself to be you, and others to be themselves–and it won't always be pretty.”
A native of northeast Pennsylvania, Boriosi continues to operate the psychiatry practice he began in Scranton in 1969. He majored in chemistry at Lafayette and is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College.
