Two Lafayette and three guest a cappella ensembles will perform at the first Sound of Healing charity concert from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in Colton Chapel. Sponsored by the Lafayette Activities Forum, the concert will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a treatment and research center for childhood cancer in Memphis, Tenn.

Tickets cost $5 for students and $7 for others. They can be purchased from the Student Activities Office at 610-330-5337.

The Lafayette groups Cadence and the Chorduroys will sing, along with an a cappella group from the Wheeler School in Providence, R.I., and the nationally known groups Naturally 7 and Five O’Clock Shadow, which has appeared on the Rosie O’Donnell Show.

The all-female Cadence appeared on the Lehigh Valley PBS weekly magazine TV program Tempo on March 1 and 2. The group performed the songs “In My Life” and “Son of a Preacher Man” during a taping held at the Lehigh Valley PBS studio on Feb. 20.

The all-male Chorduroys competed in the Varsity Vocals quarterfinals, sponsored by the International Championship of Collegiate a cappella, on March 4. Dave Campos ’01 (Rochester, N.Y.) earned Best Soloist honors and Josh Brodsky ’03 (Needham, Mass.) was named Best Vocal Percussionist.

The two Lafayette groups gave a free concert at the Williams Center for the Arts on April 6.
